Blockbusters missing from Oscars 'Best Picture' list

The largest grossing films from the past year were strangely absent from the list of nominees for 2014's best film.

The red carpet has been rolled out for the biggest night in Hollywood's awards calender: the Oscars.

The race for Best Picture was billed as a contest between the dark comedy "Birdman" and the coming-of-age drama "Boyhood" - with "Birdman" eventually taking the top prize on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

However, the list of Best Picture nominess was missing a number of big money-making blockbusters.
