Barrel bombs spell disaster for Aleppo

The government’s use of crude munition has destroyed large parts of the historic city and left hundreds dead.

At least 11 people have been killed in a government barrel-bomb attack in the Syrian city of Aleppo, as regime forces try to dislodge rebels who hold large parts of the city.

The use of the crude munition – containers packed with high explosives often dropped from helicopters – has been widely condemned by human rights groups for the high number of civilian deaths that result.

Al Jazeera’s Mereana Hond reports.
