UN sends new peacekeeping force to CAR

UN Security Council drafts new MINUSCA peacekeeping force for war-torn Central African Republic.

The UN Security Council is sending a Multi-dimensional Integrated Mission, known as MINUSCA, to the war-torn Central African Republic.

Over the next year, the mission will build up a force of 10,000 peacekeepers and 1,800 police personnel, tasked with protecting civilians and carrying out humanitarian work.

But in country where numerous peacekeeping operations have failed, there is scepticism over whether this new force can bring long-term stability.
