NASA’s probe of Mercury turns 10

Messenger spacecraft orbits 100km from planet’s surface to send back data, a decade after launch of ambitious mission.

Ten years ago, NASA launched its most ambitious mission yet – to explore the mysteries of Mercury.

The spacecraft Messenger is now orbiting less than 100km from the surface and is sending back information. 

It promises to give scientists new insight into the evolution of the solar system.
