India street sellers targeted by new law

Proposed legislation would require country’s estimated 10 million street vendors to register their businesses.

India’s estimated 10 million street sellers are the target of a proposed law that will force them to register their businesses or risk being shut down.

Supporters of the legislation say it is needed to maintain hygiene standards and to protect customers, but the vendors say they could be targeted by corrupt officials.
