The Shujayea district in the Gaza Strip has been a no-go zone since July 20.
On Friday, its residents briefly returned to their homes to bury the dead and salvage what they could, but they were forced to flee as a planned 72-hour ceasefire broke down just hours after coming into effect.
Al Jazeera’s Imtiaz Tyab reports from Shujayea.
