Russian NGOs fear new ‘foreign agent’ law

NGOs to be automatically classed as foreign agents if they receive any funding from abroad.

Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has toughened the country’s controversial ‘foreign agent’ law.

The justice ministry can put any non-governmental organisation on the foreign agent list if it receives funding from abroad.

Previously, NGOs engaged in political activity had to register as foreign agents if they received funding from abroad.
