Indigenous groups in Canada have welcomed a ruling by the Supreme Court that extends their land rights.
The decision gives aboriginal groups known as ‘First Nations’ a greater say in the development of natural resources in the areas where they live.
Governments must now ask for consent from affected communities before proceeding with plans to produce resources, such as oil, and communities must receive benefits from development projects.
