Chicago zoo creates gorilla-blood database
Human medical practices applied to primates, so doctors can find ready supply of blood in times of emergency.

Lincoln Park Zoo in the US city of Chicago is creating the first global database of blood types for captive great apes.
Blood transfusions have transformed medicine over the past century. It began with humans, but now horses, dogs, cats even ferrets – have been blood-typed, so doctors can find a ready supply in an emergency.
