Young Kenyans are choosing to learn Mandarin as China’s economic influence on Africa grows.
Last year Kenya signed deals worth more than $5bn with China for a railway line and an energy project.
The deal mirrors others made between African nations and authorities in Beijing.
Earlier this year, China signed a $13bn contract in Nigeria to build a new railway network.
It also pledged more than $2bn for a power station and coal mines in Zimbabwe.
Li Ke-chiang, the Chinese premier, is currently on a four-nation Africa tour.
