Egypt’s Sisi praises military to rivals’ ire

The presidential candidate calls the army a “great institution” in his first TV interview since deciding to run.

Egypt’s presidential candidate, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, says Egyptians will vote for him because they do not support the Muslim Brotherhood.

Speaking in his first TV interview since the launch of his presidential campaign, he also explained the role of the army.

“The Egyptian army is a very great institution. To an extent that you Egyptians cannot even imagine. My God, I just wish to see all Egypt uplifted in the same manner,” Sisi said.

His remarks provoked a strong response from his campaign rivals.
