US project to preserve sounds of history

US Library of Congress launches project to preserve, catalogue and digitise country’s oldest audio recordings.

They are the sounds of a generation – the recorded history of a nation. But there is a danger some of it could be lost for ever.

The US Library of Congress has embarked on a massive project to preserve, catalogue and digitise some of the oldest recordings in the world, ranging from music to political  speeches.
