Shinawatra hometown awaits coup outcome

The hometown of the Shinawatras is waiting to see what happens in Thailand now that the military is in charge.

There are complex layers to the political landscape in Thailand, but an obvious dividing factor is the Shinawatra family, which two prime ministers of the recent past belong to.

Thai generals are now in charge of the country. Protests are banned, media institutions are shut down and unknown numbers of people are arrested for unknown reasons.

Al Jazeera’s Veronica Pedrosa reports from Chiang Mai, the hometown of the Shinawatra family.
