India-Pakistan relations get boost

Visit by Pakistan’s Nawaz Sharif to attend inauguration of India’s new PM raises hopes for closer economic ties.

The historic meeting between Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif and India’s newly elected Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has raised hopes of closer economic ties between the South Asian neighbours.

People on both sides of the border would benefit from increased trade between the countries but the Pakistani prime minister’s previous attempts at rapproachment with India were derailed by a military coup.
