Filmmakers hoping to make it big are trying a new approach to get their movies to viewers.
Some filmmakers are bypassing traditional methods like showing their videos at film festivals and are instead releasing their work exclusively online.
Movie makers often rely on film distributors because they are hugely influential.
But by controlling how their own films are released, filmmakers can regain some of that power and often save money in the process.
Al Jazeera’s Phil Lavelle reports from Cannes.
