India’s Modi on shaky ground with the US
The prime minister-elect promises to open up foreign investment but he has been banned from travelling to the US.

India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaigned on the need to open up foreign investment in all sectors.
But for this to happen, Narendra Modi, the country’s prime minister-elect, will have to be able to travel to the US, which he is unable to do.
Washington rejected Modi’s application for a US visa nine years ago and he has been unable to visit the country since.
