Libyan government threatens to resign

Caretaker government threatens to resign unless given more powers to continue its work.

Al Jazeera is receiving reports that the Libyan government has threatened to resign.

The caretaker government has submitted a letter to the congress requesting more powers to continue doing its work, otherwise its members will be forced to resign.

The government in Tripoli has been strugging to enforce security across the country since the removal and death of Muammar Gaddafi nearly three years ago.

Several armed groups which had fought against Gaddafi’s rule have been seeking greater representation in the running of the government.

An earlier report suggested that the entire government had resigned.
