Canada’s Quebec heads to the polls
The election divides the mainly French speaking region into religious and secular sections of society.

Voters in Canada’s largely French-speaking province of Quebec go to the polls on Monday, pitting two very differing views of society against each other – religious and secular.
The Province is Canada’s largest and the second most populous. Eighty percent of the population describe French as their mother tongue.
The government held referendums on sovereignty in 1980 and 1995 – both of which failed to pass.
