Rwanda’s only private station faces obstacles
Largely blamed for Rwanda’s genocide, the country’s privately-owned media tries to reemerge amid audience’s suspicions.

Many Rwandans believe the Media was complicit in the 1994 Genocide in which at least 800,000 people, mostly Tutsis and some moderate Hutus were killed.
There is also little doubt that this legacy continues to exert a strong influence on the country’s media scene.
Until recently private media was almost unheard of in Rwanda, where the country’s single private television channel continues to struggle a year into its establishment.
