Sri Lanka close to wiping out rabies menace

Sri Lanka commits more money to fight rabies even as it has cut death rate by more than 90 percent in the last 40 years.

Sri Lanka has cut rabies deaths by more than 90% in the past 40 years.

Health experts said an anti-rabies campaign and increased awareness has helped to fight the disease.

In 2013, the government spent $4-million to provide free vaccines and treatment to bite victims in clinics across the country.
