Belgium crushes huge stockpile of ivory

One and a half tonnes of tusks and statuettes crushed in an effort to combat wildlife trafficking.

Belgium has destroyed one-and-a-half tonnes of ivory tusks and statuettes in a crushing blow to illegal wildlife smugglers.

In an effort to combat the illegal trade, the artefcats were destroyed as the EU considers tougher action to stop poaching.

Despite the International Fund for Animal Welfare saying one elephant is killed for its ivory every fifteen minutes, the move has been met with opposition in the streets of Brussels.
