Indian state makes case for its own timezone

With their day starting earlier, residents of Assam state say that having their own timezone would benefit all.

The far northeast of India is thousands of kilometres away from the capital New Delhi, but it’s in the same timezone.

Now, officials in the state of Assam want to change that so that they can increase productivity and give people more daylight hours.
