Argentinian president touts economic progress

In her first appearance since she had surgery in October, Kirchner vows to tackle economic woes.

The president of Argentina, Cristina Kirchner, has made her first major public appearance since surgery in October. In her seventh State of the Nation speech, she spoke of difficult economic choices that she has made.

Since she came to power in 2005, Kirchner had to deal with eight exchange rate crisis, and has grappled with the one of the world’s highest inflation rates, for which she blamed domestic businessmen.
