Lavish ceremony opens Sochi Olympics
Legacy of Sochi Games remains a question mark amid gay activists’ defiance, environmental damage and safety threats.

Russia has spent more than $50bn to stage the Winter Games in Sochi. The lavish opening ceremony took place in front of a crowd of about 40 thousand people.
The build-up to the games has been overshadowed by claims of corruption, security fears and human rights concerns.
