Australian PM defends asylum-seeker policy

Tony Abbott says controversial measures to stop asylum seekers arriving by boat are tough but effective.

Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott has defended his government’s controversial policy on turning back asylum seekers that enter its waters.

His comments follow recently-released footage, that appear to show the country’s navy towing back a lifeboat full of migrants towards Indonesia.

The Indonesian government considers the move an abuse of its territorial sovereignty.
