Another huge storm hits UK

The UK is enduring the worst sequence of winter weather in 300 years, with the prospect of more to come.

Just when people thought things could not get any worse, along came another major storm, one of the worst to hit the British Isles since the Great Storm of 1987.

The storm system brought heavy rain to many areas, including the badly flooded areas of the Somerset levels and Thames Valley.

Gusts of wind to more than 160 kph brought further damage and coastal inundation from Cornwall and southern Ireland, to Wales and northwestern England.

Another major system is expected to bring further misery as it sweeps across the UK and Ireland at the weekend, but thereafter, there are signs of a break in the bad weather.
