Thousands flee violence in DR Congo

Displaced people say armed militias terrorised villages by burning homes, raping women and abducting children.

More than 400,000 people have been displaced in the southern Katanga province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

They fled their homes to escape increasing violence by armed militias collectively known as Mayi Mayi Kata-Katanga.
