Tsunami survivors in India battle patriarchy

Women of one community fight for their rights, 10 years after Indian Ocean tsunami struck country’s southeastern coast.

In 2004, the Indian Ocean tsunami ravaged India’s southeastern region. In the state of Tamil Nadu, thousands of people were killed and large swathes of the coastline destroyed. In one community, the tragedy inspired women to raise their voices and fight for their rights.
