UN’s Aleppo ceasefire plan hangs in balance

Despite efforts by envoy Stefan de Mistura to broker truce, warring parties are still divided on ceasefire terms.

The United Nations special envoy to Syria, Stefan de Mistura, has for weeks been trying to mediate what he calls a freeze in the fighting in Aleppo.

But the warring sides cannot come to an agreement.

The opposition wants the plan to include areas all the way up to the Turkish border while the government rejects this as it would mean the establishment of a no fly zone.
