Iraq’s Yazidis aim to reclaim Mount Sinjar

The area was home to the minority group who are now joining the fight to reclaim it from ISIL fighters.

Iraqi Kurdish forces have launched a broad offensive aimed at recapturing areas near the Syrian border that have been held by the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) group for months.

Among the goals is to recapture Sinjar area, which was home to many members of the Yazidi minority before ISIL fighters attacked it in August and forced most of them to flee.
