Bangladesh oil spill could spell doom

Environmentalists say spill due to tanker collision in Sundarbans could endanger both marine life and local fishermen.

Villagers in Bangladesh’s Sundarbans mangrove area have begun cleaning up a huge oil spill following a tanker collision.

Thousands of litres of oil spilled into the protected area, which is home to rare dolphins, and other marine animals.

Environmentalists have warned of an ecological catastrophe, which could also affect the lives of local fishermen.

Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from Sundarban.
