Fighting in Iraq’s Diyala takes huge toll

Many have died and thousands left homeless after Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces manage to push back ISIL fighters.

After five days of intense fighting in Diyala province, Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces have managed to push back the ISIL advance. 

Many have been killed, and thousands left homeless. 

Ahmed Nasir is one such resident, who lived under ISIL and then survived the battle for Diyala.

Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan sent this exclusive report from Baghdad.
