Bid to reunite Europe’s last divided capital

Cypriots hold talks for the third time in a decade to reunite Nicosia, but efforts seem far from achieving the goal.

Twenty-five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, one European capital still stands divided.

Nicosia, in Cyprus, is a capital split by a UN military buffer zone, put in place half a century ago to prevent fighting between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

Cypriots are making their third attempt in a decade to reunite the island and do away with the barrier. However, efforts seem far from achieving the goal.

Al Jazeera’s John Psaropoulos reports from Nicosia.
