Woman strives to spread education in Africa

Ann Cotton awarded for helping more than three million children in sub-Saharan Africa get education.

It is estimated that one in five of the world’s school-aged girls do not have access to education.

But one woman, Ann Cotton, has helped more than three million children, mainly girls, get an education in rural and impoverished areas of sub-Saharan Africa.

She has been awarded a prestigious award for her work at the annual World Innovation Summit for Education, or WISE in Doha, Qatar.

Al Jazeera’s Erica Wood reports.
