Obama foreign policy faces new challenge

Republican gains in midterm elections mean the US president will now have to contend with an even more hostile Congress.

The opposition Republican Party in the US has won control of the Senate in the midterm elections.

The party also bolstered its majority in the House of Representatives, posing more challenge for President Barack Obama during his final two years in office.

He will now have to contend with a Congress controlled by a party that firmly opposes his foreign policies.
