Egypt destroys hundreds of homes for buffer

Hundreds of houses blown up and thousands evicted in bid to protect border after spike in unrest in Sinai region.

Egypt is destroying more than 680 homes along its border with Gaza and as many as 10,000 people are being evicted in order to clear the area for a buffer zone.

The government says the zone will help prevent weapons smuggling after a spike in violence by armed groups in the northern Sinai region.

However, some fear that anger at the mass eviction will only lead to more unrest.
