Refugees risk lives to reach Europe

Number of people entering Europe across Mediterranean waters set to triple this year, despite thousands drowning.

The war in Syria is one of the factors that has led to a surge in refugees crossing the Mediterranean into Europe.

The United Nations says their number has almost tripled this year compared to last.

Many travel through Turkey, which is less than ten kilometres from the Greek island of Lesvos.

Al Jazeera’s John Psaropoulos reports.
