Afghan police have said that five people were killed and two injured when gunmen opened fire on a car in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
The attack took place on Friday as the car, which was carrying seven civilians, drove through Khogyani district at about 6am (01:30 GMT), the spokesman for the provincial police, Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal, said.
Mashraqiwal said that the attack was carried out by “insurgents,” the term usually used to refer to the Taliban, and that police were investigating.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Nangahar province borders Pakistan, where the leadership of the Taliban is based.
Khogyani lies in the mountains that line the border and has long been an area of significant activity by armed groups.
