CAR reflects on dead independence hero
Many Central Africans wonder how the country might be different had Barthelemy Boganda not died before independence.

The Central African Republic has sworn in a new president. But many people still wonder what would have happened to the country if Barthelemy Boganda had not been killed in a plane crash just before independence in 1959.
Boganda was a Catholic priest who campaigned for freedom from the French.
The country has suffered from political instability since independence and its leaders have failed in various ways.
Many look back to Boganda and wonder how the Central African Republic might be different had he lived.
