Mexico asks vigilantes to surrender weapons

Some fear the government is creating a paramilitary force through its attempts to reign in the country’s vigilantes.

Mexico’s government demanded earlier this week that vigilantes surrender their weapons and return home instead of fighting the notorious Knights Kemplar cartel.

Violence then broke out between the military and supporters of the community police, killing several people.

After the tragedy, there was little evidence to suggest troops were disarming people or trying to stop the militia from battling the cartels.

Some fear that the government is creating a paramilitary force by failing to reign in the country’s vigilantes.
