Italy town angered by Syria chemical disposal

Inhabitants of Italian town Gioia Tauro are upset over the transfer of dangerous chemicals from Syria at the port.

Plans for the disposal of Syrian chemical weapons at an Italian port are meeting with local opposition.

Syria’s most toxic chemicals – 560 tonnes worth – are to be transferred from a Danish ship to an American one. The so called ‘priority one’ chemicals are changing ships at the Calabrian town of Gioia Tauro.

But inhabitants of the town are worried and angry over the consequences if anything were to go wrong in the transfers of the dangerous chemicals.
