Syrian government forces are advancing on rebel positions on the outskirts of Aleppo city. Activists say opposition fighters could lose the strategic district of Sheikh Najjar.
If it falls, rebel supply lines to Aleppo from northern provinces will be cut off.
The regime offensive comes as the opposition appears weakened by a power struggle among rebel groups.
