Germany’s SPD leans towards coalition talks

Social Democratic Party says it is prepared to consider joining Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives.

Talks to form a “grand coalition” government in Germany are continuing. 

The main centre-left party, the Social Democratic Party (SPD), said it is prepared to consider joining Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives.

The decision comes after its leader resigned following defeat in the election.
