Struggling in India’s ‘city of widows’

Under Hindu traditions in India, many widows are not allowed to get married again, despite an old law that legalised remarriages for them.

Lacking work opportunities and help from the government, thousands of bereaved women have been forced to find refuge in a place now known as a city of widows.
