Wildcards of Germany’s general election

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party is expected to win the biggest share of the vote, but it will very likely need to form a coalition with another party to govern again.
Two of the parties competing are popular with voters in the poorer parts of the country.
However, because of their ideas, the post-Communist left party and the far-right National Democratic Party face a serious challenge in ever coming to power.
That is because of their links to the past in a country which struggled through two dictatorships in the last century.
