One of America’s Great Lakes, Lake Erie, is being suffocated by a toxic algae.
It is deadly to most animals and is having a harmful impact on the lake’s $10bn-a-year tourism industry.
The problem has been blamed mainly on an overwhelming amount of fertiliser that was washed into the water by spring rains.
Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports from Lake Erie.
