New amnesty bill pushed in Thailand
Law proposes amnesty to protesters convicted in connection with 2006 coup and 2011 political rallies.

Thailand’s controversial amnesty bill for political activities is about to get its first reading in the country’s parliament.
The bill proposes amnesty to all protesters who have been convicted in connection with the coup that ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The amnesty will also cover people involved in political rallies in May 2011, but protest leaders will not have the same immunity.
