German defence chief questioned over drones
Opposition says Thomas de Maiziere wasted public funds by cancelling botched $800m surveillance programme too late.

Thomas de Maiziere, Germany’s defence minister, is facing questions about why a multi-million-dollar surveillance drone has never been used.
The Eurohawk was bought from the US five years ago, but now the contract has been cancelled.
It was decided that it was too expensive to make the technical changes needed so it could fly across European airspace.
