New Zealand opens prison wing for elderly

Unit where health-care needs of elderly inmates are considered set up at prison near Wellington.

The world’s prison population is getting older. 

In New Zealand, between 2000 and 2009 there was a 94 percent increase in those prisoners over the age of 50. 

Al Jazeera’s Andrew Thomas reports from Wellington, where Rimutaka prison has opened a special wing for elderly inmates.
