Australia takes Japan to court over whaling
International Court of Justice case will hinge on whether Japan’s whale hunt is genuinely for research.

A court appeal brought by Australia to prevent Japanese whaling in the Antarctic has got under way at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
A global ban prevents commercial whaling, but Japan says it needs to continue its annual hunt for scientific research.
